Это был временный выставочный проект, который я впервые понял, что “креативный светодиодный дисплей экраны” are not just cool decorations, but a true spatial language.
That is an interactive art exhibition located in the San Francisco Bay Area. В это время, I was involved in the spatial experience design. Originally, I planned to use several regular LED screens for video content playback, but the person in charge of the exhibition hall suddenly asked me, “Have you considered using screens as the structure?”
Если быть честным, I was stunned at that moment. Isn’t a screen just something hung on the wall to play content? Can it also be used as a “структура”?
Many people think that creative leds are just oddly shaped and brightly colored, but that’s not the case. True “креативность” is not about being eye-catching and “non-mainstream”, but about using spatial language to convey information more smoothly, deeply and precisely.
Например, in a technology company exhibition hall project that I was in charge of before, the owner hoped that the entrance could “make people remember the brand as soon as they walked in”.
I didn’t choose the traditional large screen. Instead, I used a three-sided L-shaped bending method to wrap the main visual content into the space. As soon as you push the door open and come in, the content spreads out in your left, front and right directions. В тот момент, you weren’t just watching; вместо, you directly “crashed into” the brand’s narrative.
The customer didn’t say “shocked”, but the surprise in his eyes couldn’t be deceived.
Some people may think that this design is too exaggerated, with high technical difficulty and high cost. But that’s not entirely the case.
I’m not from a technical background, so in these projects, I rely more on the structural engineers and system support of the cooperative team, such as the logic of module splicing, the force design of the irregular brackets, and the Angle distribution of image projection. You will be surprised to find that many LED technologies nowadays can precisely meet these creative demands.
I still remember another project, which was to install circular dynamic LED devices on the ceiling of an airport aisle. The modules were provided by the visualpower team. Their magnetic structure made the entire installation process nearly half as fast as expected.
С того времени, I have understood: It’s not that the idea is too complex, but that you need a reliable technical system to “carry it”.
What’s getting me more and more hooked is not the shape of the screen, но “story-telling” it brings to the space.
Just like once we designed a children’s area for a bookstore. Originally, the owner just wanted to hang a few small TVS playing cartoons. But I propose to surround the entire reading area with a circle of low arc-shaped leds, playing slow-flowing images and illustrations.
The children sat in, as if they were sitting in a glowing three-dimensional picture book. The picture is not “telling a story”, но “constructing the space of the story”.
A mother came over to me and said, “My son has never been able to sit still, but this time he stayed inside for half an hour.” I think the charm of creative LED might lie right here – it can arouse people’s attention without forcibly interfering. It provides a field but does not dominate the narrative.
To put it bluntly, in my mind, creative leds no longer fall within the category of “экраны”.
It is more like a spatial “verb” – it makes vision part of action, enables information to occur in a “perceived” way, and adds a layer of memory to an ordinary corner.
Perhaps you don’t remember exactly what was said on the screen, but you will remember where you were, what you saw and how you felt at that time.
As a person engaged in spatial narrative, what I most hope to leave behind is precisely this kind of “vague yet profound” опыт.
The future of creative LED display screens doesn’t seem complicated to me. I don’t want it to become the next “check-in tool” that is piled up with concepts. Instead, I hope it can become a trustworthy spatial language.
It’s not about giving you the feeling of being “cool”,
