I’m neither a design master nor a tech maniac. Ich bin nur ein gewöhnlicher Ladenbesitzer, der einen kleinen Laden in einer ruhigen Kleinstadt in den USA betreibt.. When my friend saw me say I was going to make a special shape LED display, he almost laughed at me for being crazy.
Where are you going to hang it? “Storefront?” Decke?”
Who knows… Zusamenfassend, just make sure my store doesn’t look like a fast food restaurant’s advertising wall.”
Unerwartet, this “seemingly useless thing” changed the atmosphere of the entire store and also made me re-understand what the human eye actually sees and perceives.

Traditionally, the LED screens we see are all rectangular or square, used for playing videos, adding subtitles and advertising. But the special shape LED display is not.
They can be arc-shaped cylinders, circular rings, Dreiecke, or even as strange as Rubik’s cubes, masks, Tunnel, Kugeln – as strange as they can be.
This type of display screen is aimed at those who want to break the sense of spatial flatness and integrate the screen into the environment. Compared with ordinary banners, it can bring people a stronger sense of “surprise” und “Teilnahme”.
The problem is that my small store is rather shabby. There were a few tables and a few paintings hanging on the wall, but there was no atmosphere at all. If we install another ordinary LED, it can at most serve as a menu for a while. Who would still want to look at it?
Then one time when I went to the exhibition hall for a visit, I saw a pillar wrapped with arc-shaped leds. The pillar had transformed into a “gently glowing rhythmic body”, and people couldn’t help but circle around it and took photos for a long time.
Damals, Ich dachte mir: If my store could also have some “strange appeal”, perhaps there would be a response.
Also, I ordered a Dreieck -LED -Anzeige and also considered the circular and mask-shaped ones. Letztlich, I chose a triangle that matched the arch over my storefront window at the entrance of my store.

Ehrlich gesagt, this thing is much more troublesome than I imagined:
These special-shaped modules need to be precisely assembled and must not be uneven; ansonsten, the display screen will shift very obviously.
It is also necessary to calculate how the power supply and control lines should be routed. you can’t let the wiring look like spaghetti.
The content cannot be directly thrown into rectangular videos, as it will be cropped, warped, and just plain weird.
The content is made into regular polygons (Dreiecke), with the center leaving a key visual focus.
The picture mainly features a slow pace and does not suddenly lag.
The control system can be directly connected to the mobile phone to change the screen. I have changed it several times and it has never been laggy.
So what did it all look like in the end? When people pass by, they all stop. Anfangs, they don’t know what my store sells, but they will first stare at that strangely shaped screen.

1. Shape is a signal
People in a shopping mall environment can be drawn by “strange shapes”. Rectangles are all background plates. Only when they become triangular, arc-shaped, shield-shaped or ring-shaped will you turn back.
2. The simpler the content, the more advanced it is
my favorite display setup: Only one ray of light streaks from left to right, slowly and slowly. It’s not pushing ads in your face, but it brings a sense of breathing to the space. The classic saying “Less is more”.
3. It’s better to break the space than not to break it at all
My store is not large, but it’s just that triangular ceiling position. You don’t have to LED the whole wall. As long as the layout is correct and the positions are accurate, the appeal will be higher than spending money to smash the entire wall.
Retail stores/bars
The odd-shaped screen can be placed at the corner, in the cashier area or beside the sofa. Create a “hidden paradise” feeling with b-roll slow-motion videos, waterfalls and star trail backgrounds.
Exhibition Hall/Museum
The LED lights in the circular tunnel are not just for show; they enhance tourists’ sense of immersion as if they were surrounded. Configure the spatial rhythm. Zum Beispiel, if virtual raindrops hit your head, it would be hard not to take a photo.
Public Spaces/airports, supermarkets
Circular/cylindrical leds can be used to create weather maps and urban rhythm animations. Compared with scrolling captions, it is more artistic and recognizable.
Step 1: Select the shape
Find a corner that can “draw the line of sight” based on the space. Decke? Pillar? Arch? “Ground?”
Step 2: The content should be designed for form
The content is not something the screen can change; it’s you who change it. For triangular content, use a triangular frame. If it’s an arc, use arc animation. Ansonsten, the picture will go off course.
Step 3: Find a reliable supplier
Ask them to provide module diagrams, assembly plans, module brightness consistency tests, usw., to see if they are not just randomly assembling and shipping.
Step 4: Nach der Installation, carefully adjust the content
Don’t treat it like a digital billboard. Slow down the pace, leave some blank space, add background music and create an atmosphere.
After I hung up a triangle LED display screen in my small store, the number of customers taking photos doubled and their stay time increased. Many people even said, “This place seems to have good taste.” I don’t make money from it, but it helps me get out of mediocrity.
If you also want to add some “Seele” to the space, abandon the template and think about the shape, then the special shape LED display is definitely worth considering.
